EMALAHLENI – Local entrepreneurs received a significant boost this week as the Emalahleni Local Municipality hosted an equipment handover programme sponsored by the Office of the Minister of Small Business Development.
The event, facilitated through the office of Executive Mayor Cllr V. J. Nhlapho, saw equipment distributed to Small, Medium, and Micro-Enterprises (SMMEs) on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
The handover is the latest success in a consistent effort by Mayor Nhlapho to empower local businesses. For several months, the Mayor has actively pursued public and private partnerships to secure sponsorship and resources for SMMEs that had previously applied for assistance through the Municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) unit. This sponsored equipment is intended to help beneficiaries sustain and grow their operations.
Mayor Nhlapho emphasized that the initiative aligns with the municipality’s commitment to fostering a resilient local economy. “The Executive Mayor continues to advocate for the empowerment and skills development of the youth and the broader community,” a municipal spokesperson noted, “in order to ensure that the economy of Emalahleni is sustained and maintained through entrepreneurship.”
