A group of ten Emalahleni students received a major boost in their academic journeys during a bursary award ceremony jointly hosted by MaxProf (Maximum Profit Recovery), the Emalahleni Local Municipality’s Local Economic Development (LED) Unit, and the Youth Unit. The event took place at the Municipality’s Council Chamber and was attended by several dignitaries, including Executive Mayor Cllr Vusi Nhlapho, Municipal Manager Mr HS Mayisela, and Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) TT Mathebula, SS Buthelezi, and H Maseko.
The bursaries were granted to students from Emalahleni who are pursuing studies at various institutions across South Africa. Speaking at the event, Ms Renusha Ramdas, Director of EST Sourcing for MaxProf, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to empowering young people through education.
“As long-term stakeholders within the municipality, we saw it fit to launch our first bursary initiative here — supporting ten deserving students as part of our Corporate Social Investment programme,” Ramdas said.
MMC for Technical Services, Cllr TT Mathebula, who directed the programme, highlighted the importance of private sector support in education, noting that such initiatives ease the financial strain on government and families. He also reaffirmed that education remains a powerful equaliser in society.
Delivering the keynote address, Executive Mayor Cllr Vusi Nhlapho commended the Municipality’s LED Unit for fostering strong partnerships with local stakeholders. He stressed that continued collaboration ensures long-term investment in the city’s youth, which is vital for driving sustainable economic growth.
“Investing in students is investing in the future,” said Nhlapho. “These young people will one day shape our economy and strengthen the foundations of our community.”
The Municipality extended congratulations to all recipients, encouraging them to maintain academic excellence and represent Emalahleni with pride, opening doors for more opportunities of this kind in the future.
